green|back «GREEN BAK», noun.
1. a piece of United States paper money, especially a legal-tender note, having the back printed in green. Greenbacks were originally issued in 1861 without any gold or silver reserve behind them. »

Since most dealers haven't enough greenbacks to shell out for big shipments of cars, they have to get temporary loans (Wall Street Journal).

2. any one of various animals, such as the American golden plover, or a European garfish.
